Artist Statement
Graphic designers are gatherers. We gather concepts, ideas, materials, typefaces, layouts, and colors in order to create our work. Gathering information from books, articles, and pictures, reinforce one's concept and ideas for a project. Inspiration is everywhere. It is found in textures, patterns, and illustrations. Each typeface can be a possibility for a project, so gathering many can point a designer in the right direction to choose a typeface. Gathering the right colors for a project is essential. Each swatch of color helps navigate the feel of a project. We test everything while experimenting in layouts to see what works and does not. While one element may work for a project, another element may not, so combining different resources helps one to figure out what looks and works best. Each element gathered plays an important role in order for the project to be successful as a finished piece.
